As an Indian born in Kenya and raised in Britain, my journey has been a continuous search for belonging and identity amid ever-changing cultural complexities. From as early as I can remember, my place of solace and safety lay in art—a means to explore my sense of ‘nowhere-ness’ and the multitude of identities within me. From Coventry to the streets of London, to a now 30-year career as an actor, my path has been one of survival, resilience, and self-discovery. Through art, I transcend the confines of race, nationality, and religion, immersing myself in a world where boundaries fade and creativity knows no limits.
Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of global art history, I am influenced by art and artists from across the world, but also by the human condition—both within and beyond. I lose myself in figurative work as a means of expressing a spiritual search. Having lived in the world of storytelling as an actor for many years, my artwork is imbued with narratives and emotions that speak in a subtle, energetic way.
As an actor, I have had the privilege of working with and sharing the screen with luminaries such as Ray Winstone, Johnny Depp, Richard Gere, and Donald Sutherland, as well as Om Puri, Anupam Kher, and Aishwarya Rai. I have collaborated with visionary directors like Tim Burton, Sam Mendes, and Peter Kosminsky. From playing Prince Pondicherry in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the beloved Masood in EastEnders, my acting journey has been a tapestry of diverse roles and experiences.
In my art, as in my life, I seek to bridge worlds, transcend boundaries, and celebrate the beauty, tragedy, and joy of our shared humanity. Through colour form, and imagination, I invite you to join me on a journey of discovery and connection—to reflect on your own stories and experiences, and the infinite possibilities of the human spirit.
